It doesn't seem to be good news IMO :"(

One more step towards makin the game easy and simplified...

Less optimizations possible, less fun...

Give the new expansion a chance to develope and 2 or 3 month after release we will see, what the changes have brought us.
With these changes we will have something new to learn with our characters. How do I need to play my toon now? Which ratio is better in raids? What combination of stats gives me the optimum of my character?
Adding new content or having one or two classes etc. doesn't make a game worth playing for years. New content will be explored within a month and new classes are interesting in the beginning, except for DK's Razz

I mean what do you do when a new expansion comes out. Level to the cap, explore the new areas, do Heroics and the new raids. Get the best gear possible. That's it.
Just because we are used to certain things and we know how they work and they are being changed doesnt mean that the new things are worse than before.

IMO, not all is bad news, the following are interesting news for me, I can't say how it will affect the game to 100%, but think it will give the game some new things besides the new content and new races that cata will bring:

Spirit - Come Cataclysm, this stat should only be found on healing gear.
Haste - Haste will become more attractive for melee classes by allowing them to recover resources such as energy and runes more quickly. Our intention is for Haste to let you "do stuff" more often
Mastery - This is a new stat that will allow players to become better at whatever makes their chosen talent tree cool or unique. It's directly tied to talents, so what you gain from improving this stat is entirely dependent upon your class and the talent specialization you choose.

In Cataclysm, we are going to give players a way to replace stats on gear as part of the existing profession system. As a general rule of thumb, you’ll be able to convert one stat to 50% of another stat. While some conversions (like converting Stamina to Strength) won’t be permitted, the goal is to let you customize your gear more.

World of Warcraft has become a complex game and with many different races and classes it isn't that easy to program everything, so that all are happy and everything is balanced. It's mentioned in the begining of the post, why they are changing things. At least wait until the expansion is out, play a couple of weeks with your new lvl85 and then judge.

As the game has matured, we've run into increasingly complex issues with the current stat system. Many stats are inherently confusing, and the way they interrelate can feel convoluted. Attack Power, for example, currently translates to damage, but so does Armor Penetration. Defense provides five different statistical benefits of varying utility. Mana regeneration involves understanding multiple stats and rules and often ends up being irrelevant anyway. In addition, the difference between a "good stat" for a class and a "bad stat" can be extreme. Some casters want Haste but not Crit; hunters want Armor Penetration but not Haste. There are other overarching issues, as well, such as Intellect not being very exciting for casters despite it being a core stat -- and these are just a few examples.
Our ultimate goal is make gear a more interesting (and less confusing) choice by making each stat valuable to more players.

Since TBC they are aiming for less confusing stats, simplification and a more standardized class system.

I see that they make that in order to make the game simple and i'm pretty sure many people will enjoy.

Personally, i was enjoying the game more when there was more options available, more tweaking and more complexity.

It was not preventing someone to enjoy the game on a more simple level, but number crunchers and nuts like me where also having their fun.

Anyways, i've always enjoyed the game a lot and i'm sure i will enjoy cataclysm new content Smile

However, the mastery stat seems to be a very cool idea and i'm looking forward to see how it works . . .

Well, I wouldn't be that sure about that. We won't be able to lvl up to 85 that's sure, but it will have an effect on our gear and therefor our gamestile.
Just think about it as it is now with cn wow, we only have TBC content, but we are effected by WOTLK. For example Talenttrees, which are layed out for lvl 80 content. Achievements that you can't do cause of the lvl cap or because you have no access to certain areas, vendors or Mobs, lockboxes that can't be opend, due to lvl cap etc.

muhan, there will not be any new classes in the upcoming expansion. only 2 new races added. 1 ugly greenie man & 1 lame wolfman with the same old crap classes we have seen for almost near to a decade.

blizzard never implement new races with new classes available in their expansion. (yeah i know it sucks big time & their mind is screwed up)

out of curiosity on when you said talent trees are layed out for 80 content in CN WoW. are you saying currently CN WoW having a WoTLK Talent tree system in a TBC world content??? How on earth a TBC gears work in line with a WoTLK Talent Tree??? Shocked Shocked Shocked

On the bright side it means that the chinese WoW experience is genuinely unique, its neither WotLK or oldschool BC. It's a kind of bastard child of both!

I just wish they'd give us patch 3.2 already - cheap mounts and +150% movement speed standard flying mount which you can use from level 60. That would make outland much less of a pain in the arse heh. In 3.3 they've introduced a dungeon finder as well that lets you queue for cross-server instance pugs, (with extra rewards for doing so), my brother tells me its awesomely fast to level using that, and extremely easy to do a decent amount of heroics every day.

But like Uru, I just wish they'd hurry up and give us WotLK already Razz
