The basic outline for what dps classes need what stats are as follows:

Warrior Strength > Hit > haste/critical/mastery
Deathknight Strength > Hit > haste/critical/mastery
Paladin Strength > Hit > haste/mastery/critical
Rogue Agility > hit > haste/critical/mastery
Hunter Agility > hit > haste/critical/mastery
Druid Feral Agility > hit > haste/critical/mastery
Druid Boomkin Intellect > hit > haste/critical/mastery
Warlock Intellect > hit > haste/critical/mastery
Mage Intellect > hit > haste/critical/mastery
Priest Intellect > hit > haste/critical/mastery

I left out stamina as gear generally has stamina on it no matter what, however you shouldnt sacrifice DPS over stamina.
In regards to haste/crit/mastery its a bit messy when it comes down to individuals gear/spec and is largly dependant on what your playstyle is like.

I believe Druid Boomkin's have a talent which converts spirit to hit, so gearing for hit is basically unnecessary as you can get all you need from spirit.

Lol...

As Ret your stats should be Str>Mastery>Crit>Haste. Stop stacking hit at 7.8%, stop stacking Exp at 16 (Glyph of Seal of Truth give 10 free Exp). Reforge Crit to mastery if not available, reforge haste to mastery, or to crit if mastery is present.

Gem only for +40str unless piece of gear give +20Str socket bonus per gem (i.e. Tier 11 Ret chest, gem 1 pure +40Stra and another one +20str&20hit).

As prot stack mastery, mastery is top stat, reforge to mastery, never go for hit/exp and avoid gear pieces with it. Unless this piece give you most mastery in slot (i.e. Dragonbone Warhelm from Maloriak)

Warrior tanks will have a different priority list... But for DPS is haste really = to crit and mastery?

for PVP pretty sure it wont be. but DPS?

This is just a generalized info for newer players so they dont go using the wrong stats. eg warrior going for agility and taking crit over hit

Your obviously going to only use the hit stat until its capped and then switch t othe other three. I found haste to be my favourite with a very quick crusader strike getting your holy power nice and fast. But i played on the 4.0 patch so mastery for ret was changed so thats a lot better than it used to be

Depends if Arms or Fury. Arms is #1 DPS spec for warrior since 4.1, they mostly go Hit>Haste>Mastery.

This is true, Fury being the more common DPS spec... MyTank will want to know about those. I will be Arms or Tank. For Arms, reaching the base hit cap is needed of course, but i figure if i am PVPing more haste will not be much a of a priority and it will be Str>Crit>Mastery (Stam resil in there too)If i do DPS i will have an alternate set of gear , it wont be an optimal set up but the stats will still be good for average DPS.

Reforging makes all of this a lot easier though!

Priest= Intellect > hit > haste/critical/mastery

Would this only apply with a Shadow priest or is this the same for a Disp/ holy priest as well? I know before hit wasn't big on the list for disp/ holy but didn't they make them more able to DPS as well? And is this for leveling or just raiding?

(and can anyone explain mastery? I tried looking it up but I didn't follow much of it- I need the simplest explanation possible)

^ This is how I understand it. We can now specialize in a particular talent tree. Your specialized tree provides special passive bonuses (for example, stronger absorbs for PW: Shield if you specialize in the Discipline tree). By boosting your character's Mastery, you boost the effectiveness of these bonuses (e.g. shield absorbs more damage).

Supposedly, bonuses for certain talent trees (of different classes) are lackluster. Therefore, Mastery may or may not be one of the more desirable stats for a particular class + spec.
