So I've moved to Tangshan for 6months while teaching English.
I used to play wow quite a bit a few years ago and I have quite a bit of time on my hands so I was thinking of giving this a try.
Couple of questions:
1)Can i buy this CWoW card at any corner shop?
2) How do i get a Chinese ID? I used my passport id to make a QQ account and use that to play on the Chinese LoL. I understand its not a proper Chinese ID at all but it seems to work and i still have the ability to use Both QQ + LoL for the past month now. Would my passport number work here? or should i try and get a Chinese ID? If so where do i acquire one?
3)How active is this forum? I've been looking at some of the posts, they seem to be quite few and far between. Smile
4) i hear that the cards go by hours? Is this played time, or literally you have 60 hours to play then you need to buy some more?
5) i live in tangshan, which server would be best to use?

Cheers, Dave

Hello and welcome.

I'll get started immediately.

1. Yes. Ask for a "muo shou shi jie ka". Easier to find in bigger convenience stores such as Family Mart or All days.

2. Unfortunately, you can't use your passport to make a WoW account in China - only Chinese ID's. You can always try using sites such as baidu.com and image searching a chinese id but your safest bet would be to find someone willing to lend you their id.

3. Eh. Most active parts would be the TCW sub-forum. I'll see what I can do to update a few of the posts.

4. One card is equal to 3000 minutes I believe. Costs 30 rmb or if your wallet starts bitching you can always buy a 15 rmb one.

5. Honestly, just test the one where the majority of this forum is on Horde Guild - CN1 奥特兰克 (Alterac) . It shouldn't be so bad. Else you'll have to stick to servers located close to Beijing.

Thanks for the reply! Smile
I guess my current problem is finding a Chinese ID then . (I actually need 2, 1 or me and my GF).
I teach with a couple of chinese teachers but i really don't feel comfortable asking them for their ID's to sign up to World of Warcraft.

We basically live in a school together so i think were supposed to be "work work work" all the time, yet in reality we have more free time than them, It's a bit awkward.

Any idea how i could broach the topic? Very Happy

How long do you think 3000minutes would actually last you (days wise?)

Eh I can't say as it really depends on how much you play. The game time you add only starts to diminish when you play; it doesn't actually tick down when you don't.

RMB 30 card gives you 4000 minutes (66.67 hours), which tends to last me about 2-3 weeks, although there are many who play a lot more than I do and probably use it up in a week.

I wouldn't worry too much about the other teachers expecting you to work, work, work, as they're probably used to foreign teachers and their smaller workloads. You're there mainly to be a celebrity rather than teach anyway, right? ^_^

Also, you can create 2 wow accounts under the same ID card, so you only need to find a single ID card in order to let both you and your girlfriend play.

Oh, it's also possible to buy an account on Taobao.com (or from spooky, who was selling his accounts on this forum a short time ago), although you're doing that at your own risk.

If you do try it, make sure to get the id copy, the email account, and the login details.

I have the ability to get a picture of an ID card from one of my friends here(Maybe without their knowledge). But that feels so ... dirty. It's just that in the UK WoW is almost frowned upon by people who don't play it, so i have no idea how they would react to me wanting to play WoW. :/

It's nice to know i only need 1 though, and thanks for clarifying the hours thing.
Roughly how many hours a day do you play? Just so i can put an estimate on how far it would get me.

Also i notice in the other thread that some gamers from Beijing use a VPN? Which one is it and how much would it set me back if i were to use it? (Also would we both be able to use it?)
We don't really have the money to be splashing out on shit since we aren't actually getting paid while here(long story).

Dude, a LOT of people play WoW in China, and those who don't won't judge you (It doesn't have that "Game for nerdy highschool, no-life virgins" reputation yet), so don't worry!

You don't really need the VPN anymore if you're in Beijing, it doesn't lag anymore for some reason.

I usually play between 2 to 8 hours a day, so I buy a new card about every 2-3 weeks as well. It's still a lot cheaper that EU WoW, especially since you don't actually have to buy the game (blowing 80 euros for a server I barely played filled with annoying kids on felt like such a waste)
