Hi y'all, not sure if this topic has been covered yet, my sincere apologies if it has!

I have a friend who owns a Mac with WoW all patched up and everything, and yet even though he has all the right settings to connect (i.e. realmlist.wtf etc.), the server (or something) is unable to validate his version. Does anyone have any clues about this?

Hi Poeuetp0u,
He wants to play in China. I'm pretty certain he has the right patch, I'm just wondering whether the main problem is to do with the inability for Apples to recognize UTF-8 format files, as his config.wtf resets every time...

Anyhow, he has installed WoW onto a PC now, so he can play, but still... is there any info for Mac players? My g/f has a Mac, and altho I haven't convinced her to play WoW yet, I'd be interested in gettin' it running just for the technical challenge :-)

On another note, can you play WoW in China without TBC?

I'm going through the same process. It definitely has something to do with the realmList.wtf file. If you leave it as "us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com" it will check the username and password, ie won't says "unable to validate". But if you modify to realmList to cn1.grunt.wowchina.com, it won't validate. I am running it just this way on my PC and it works, but on the mac it doesn't. As a test I found the IP address of a private server in the US and redirected the realmList to it, and it works.

The only one that doesn't work is cn1.grunt.wowchina.com. So my idea, which may or may not be the solution, is to find the IP address of the server your char is on. Does anyone know how to look up the actual IP address for specific servers in the areas? If so, please help! Specifically, I want to find the IP for area 1, server 奥达曼 (aodemen).
Help!

If you use "cmd" in the run menu, then type "ping cn1.grunt.wowchina.com" it gives you the IP address (but for cn4, for some reason that I do not understand!).

So are you saying if you enter the IP address instead of the URL, it works? If that is the case, I will advise my friend with the Mac!

However, he was able to connect to private servers using just the URL on his Mac, so go figure...
