Hey guys,

My password for my WOW account isnt working. I didnt change it (ever) and I dont really know what could possibly be wrong.

Has this happened to you before?
Is there someone that I can contact @The9?

I have a well geared lvl 70druid and a couple of other lesser toons. I would be extremely pissed off if they were lost.

Any ideas?

check on customer support page of www.wowchina.com and the9.
they have a shanghai local number 24h. need to speak chinese, they dont speak any english.

PS: your problem also might lie in "I didnt change it (ever)", which is just a sign of bad care.
there are about 20+ known trojans and worms fetching ONLY wow acct. passwords and login info. good luck if you are running windows 32 bit or playing from a public terminal.

copy / paste from other thread:
use password recovery form.
you can recover / reset passwords vie email, mobile phone (sms message), or even via phone with the9.
here it comes: you will probably need a matrix card to have been used. installed (maybe). but you will for SURE (just checked) need the password / ID card number used on registration.

i said so several times, a year ago. theychanged it, and they are even offering the option, in case you dont have your number, or forgot it or whatever, to change the passport number (this makes your account 1 week unavailable. deadanus did so).

if you guys NEITHER installed a matrix card, NOR used PIN1+2, nor did email and mobile bind on your account, and never wrote down or changed the passport number, then it simply means you didn't care enough about security and/or recovery.

sorry for being harsh, but it had been said several times by me and others. and seeing people whine now, .... well ...., all i can say is : told ya.

There isn't much you can do, except calling the9, maybe they will ask you for some sort of fax confirmation and so on. good luck, but as you lack on giving information of your case, it makes it hard to estimate your true problem (hacked account, password mismatch, etc....).

in any case......
LEt IT BE a LESSON TO EVERYBODY, AND PLEASE, IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR TOONS, THEN CARE!~

Thanks Naklin for the reply although im still not sure what has happened to my account. I think I have one of either 2 problems:

1. My account has been hacked and my password has been changed. The only hope in this case is to call the9 and cry and shout and argue. Chances are it wont work. In this case I will probably give up WOW...there's no way in hell im going through the levelling process and getting attuned for Kara and the rest of reputation grinding crap.

2. The ID card number i used to register with the9 was the one that was placed on this forum. A few of the other forum members have complained about not being able to use that ID number to register anymore. My guess is that so many people have used that same ID number that someone in the9 has figured our trick out and it banning accounts.

You are right Naklin, I probably should have used more security on my account, but considering my Chinese is very poor and my email bank/accounts also have the same password (and they have never been hacked) I didnt think it would be a problem.

Anyway, I will try and call the9, which should be an interesting experience considering my Chinese ability. Ill will update you on what happens next.

halamadrid: NOP. it is not. ask, if not sure.
Lami:
The passport number does not = your account login.
i didn't even know someone posted a passport number on the forum here.
get that number. if you have it, you can somehow get your acct. back from the9.
thats good news.
after you fix your acct, aply for changing the passport number. get any number afrom any chinese person over 18yrs old. write it down and kep it like your greatest treasure.
your acount will be locked for 1 week, for the modification process.
get the info on that, i dont know how to write the step by step here. get a local friend.
also, once you get it back, get your mobile phone and email bound (need to confirm the addi and reply to an automated mail + sms) to your acct. that way you can always reset your password.
if you HAVE the passport / id number you used to register, call up the 9.
even if gear had been disenchanted, etc, you can get everything back. (1 time x year only)

So the passport number is the Chinese ID number?
https://passport.the9.com/index.php

If you click on the link above you will see a login stage. The login name/passport number is your ID number or your WOW account name? Thats what I wanted to know.

I called yesterday (the9) and got lost in their automated telephone customer service. I think I will need a Chinese person to do it.

Anyway, the ID number I used is only 15 digits because it is an old one (that I borrowed from a link from this forum). Considering that its not my ID number, will it be a problem?
