| Beware of account phishing attempts ! | |
|
| | Tue 2 Nov 2010 - 0:59 # | Im sure everyone who plays this game has recieved some sort of fake email regarding your account; being under investigation/having its password changed/selected for beta testing etc. Normally they are fairly easy to spot, but the phishers are getting better, and this one nearly got me. I wanted to share the information so that the people of this community can be aware that this IS NOT an email from a real WoW GM, but rather a very crafty attempt by some despicable person to steal your account information.
Author: 'wowgm' Subject: 'World of Warcraft hackers stealing brings you hurt us deeply apologize'
'Hi
This is Blizzard Entertainment's apology, we acknowledge a mistake, for you to lose the World of Warcraft account in order to recover our losses, we will give you 10000 gold coins free of charge and rare mounts a (celestial steed), I hope you can restart the game. Login website authentication, 48 hours you will receive compensation.
Confirm your account information . You will get the Cataclysm Beta Test invitation or the Trial Mounts Description: test account and permanently disabled can not compensation'
As you can see, this email is almost undistiguishable from a genuine wowaccount email so beware of the phishing attempts !

| | | Tue 2 Nov 2010 - 12:43 # | 1- Blizzard will always refer to you if your own name 2-Blizzard don't speak Troll mon' 3-Blizzard NEVER, NEVER , NEVER, NEVER gives you anything in exchange incase your account was hacked. They will, however, restore your gold and items. I'm afraid I've seen far more structured e-mails my friend . This one? LOL | | |
| | | Tue 2 Nov 2010 - 15:47 # | You can check the email of the sender. Usually they are blabla@blizzard.blabla.com, then it means it's blabla.com who sent you the mail and not blizzard.com. Also never click links on a mail, and if you do, don't fill any login form you could land on. That's how they'll get your infos. If blizzard want to contact you for beta keys etc they'll do it through your battlenet account and not by email. One more thing always check the links you are about to click in the browser status bar : for exemple www.battlenet.com.cn won't get you to battlenet.com.cn and you don't need to be a hacker to fool ppl this way.

I'm afraid I've seen far more structured e-mails my friend . This one? LOL 4: Blizzard should never ask for your password. This has horrendous english but manages to ask for your password without saying password. WoW would be clear about this.

It was so poorly done that I thought it was a funny reminder about phishing attempts. Oh and the link you posted should be.../ Cappy, you do know that there are people on this forum, who might click that link. Might not be such a good idea to have such links in your posts. Sure, click on links at your own risk, but ppl will do it more likely from posts that are written by members that they know. So pls never put links in your posts which are potentialy dangerous. I do not know the current status, but it used to download viruses to your pc, if you went to that website. So better use a safe porn link like Bolo did
| | | Tue 9 Nov 2010 - 5:14 # | It is definately not a virus link and I've never heard anything of the sorts. Nothing but a colorful threesome on the site I posted... | | |

Oh, now you are saying it's not dangerous and ppl like you will click the link. Great job m8. Do some research first, I will just give one example, and I can find 100 more:
"The site did have a BAT virus injected in the flash - But it's removed as of today."
taken from http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/youareanidiot.org/msgpage?page=1#reviews
So next time you might want to do some research, before you post links that are or have been dangerous, you might be lucky and it isn't anymore.
Cappy I don't think your sarcasme is real, maybe you don't pay attention to what you write. In your first post you wrote: "Normally they are fairly easy to spot, but the phishers are getting better, and this one nearly got me."
Anyone with decent english knowledge would suspect the email to be fake.
After everyone is saying that the english is so bad in this thread you come along and say: "Sorry, I got carried away with my sarcasm... It was so poorly done that I thought it was a funny reminder about phishing attempts."
Sorry m8 but in my opinion you don't pay attention at all, and the link used to be dangerous and still might be. So don't start looking for excuses.
Sorry for being an ass, but I realy don't like stuff like this.
| | | Tue 9 Nov 2010 - 7:37 # | yeah like muhan said you can be infected without any warning just by going on an infected website. PS: didn't knew the link I posted was a porn Guys if you could remove the porn links on your posts in this topic that would be sweet. | | |

done | | |
| | | Tue 9 Nov 2010 - 15:47 # | First of all, I removed the link and I really didn't know there were any issues with that website. I checked it before I posted and it came out clean. Second; yes, anyone with decent knowledge of english would know the email is a fake. So when I wrote about how clever the phishers are and how they nearly got me in reference to that email, it seemed like obvious sarcasm to me but others seemed to take it a bit too seriously. Third; I agree you are being a bit of an ass and need to relax a bit, m8 | | |

I mean I do that a lot, to open a thread with a sarcastic post. I mean look at the title: Beware of account phishing attempts ! looks very sarcastic and this shows everyone you are making a joke and being very sarcastic: I wanted to share the information so that the people of this community can be aware that this IS NOT an email from a real WoW GM, but rather a very crafty attempt by some despicable person to steal your account information. oh and thanks for removing the link, eventhough as you said you checked the website and it was clean. I can be 100% sure now that the website is not dangerous now, cause you checked it. Thanks so much. and now I'm finished trolling in this thread, cause it makes no sense to argue with someone who is only finding excuses. At least I admit I am being a bitch about your posts
| | | Wed 10 Nov 2010 - 11:02 # | Dont worry CappY i got it /sarcasm | | |
| | | Wed 10 Nov 2010 - 13:24 # | To be honest, it was quite obvious to see that the email was fake, so no problem there. While one could distinguish a faint mark of sarcasm, for some it may not be. Maybe because the title looked too genuine? - wikipedia wrote:

Based on this, CappY, your sarcasm was indeed correct, but not obvious at all because of the other content in your post. Me saying "StiXx sure knows how to play a hunter!" would be more obvious sarcasm I guess EDIT: I feel that This sums up the whole phishing attempts/ways to be protected.
