UPDATED ON: 30-12-2012 (DD-MM-YYYY)

If you already have an up to date Windowsversion of WoW and want to start playing on OS X, you don't need to download the Mac client. The following procedure should work with all available languages (Game version 5.1.0.16357):


1. Copy the complete WoW folder from Windows to an external harddisk.

2. Delete all .exe and .dll files in WoW main folder (not necessary but recommended).

3. Download the Mac files (Wow & Launcher.app) from here: Rapidshare

4. Copy the WoW folder into "Applications" on your Mac.

5. Extract the downloaded Mac files & copy it into the WoW main folder.

6. Change to /WTF and backup the existing Config.wtf . Now open Config.wtf and change the line set portal US into set portal CN.

7. Start the game with the 32/64bit World of Warcraft.app instead of launcher.app. This will avoid updates while chinese servers are still on older version.

Danziqi are the uploaded files in your method valid with any version of wow? If not you should precise for which version it's working at the moment, and unless you or someone are ready to maintain the method and provide new files for each updates you must make it clear it will not work after the next update.

Stickied guides need to work and be kept up to date or the forum will go crazy with people new comers having issues.

Yes you are right, I will edit my post.
The "World of Warcraft.app" is the latest version 4.3.2, but with the regional Launcher it will be possible to update. As long as I stay in China (at least till end of 2012) I will keep the files up to date. The only problem is the hosting, Game Front will delete it after 7 days without download, also Amazon S3 seems to be partly blocked in China. Any idea for better solutions?

Is there a streaming client for Mac? I only see 4.0 clients, and then having to download every single patch individually.

Found the same, I downloaded the client from Battle.net, which is only v4.0. But after streaming had been finished (after hours with the terrible internet connection here) it was on v4.3.2. I didn't have to download any patch.
I only had to restart my german launcher after the streaming was finished and then it started to download the next 2GB. But after this I was able to play...

Figured it out. Turns out it takes some time for the process to get started, and also hadn't noticed that my firewall was blocking the connection at some point. Anyways, Danziqi, what are you going to do for YY in raids?

Hmm that could be a bit tricky. To be honest, till now I didn't play in raids, so wasn't a big problem for me.
The only solution I have is using crossover or wine and run the windows version. Not sure if it works, but with crossover it should be possible.
Stupid question just for my info, why do we use YY for talking in WoW? Why not the original Teamspeak client (which is available for all OS) or at least QQ?

Good question, lol. But, it'll be kind of stupid on my part to ask 50 other members to change to teamspeak/qq just because I've got a mac

But I have some good news. I got YY running in OS X, using CrossOver. Managed to create an account, now I still need to join our guild server and do the audio settings. This could be the bigger problem, because have to install some audio drivers in CrossOver... Trial & error as usual, let's hope that it'll work

I think I'm going to try with a Wine emulator. I got it work once, I'll get it to work again!

Yeah wine is a great emulator, tho guys I would still suggest keeping an updated windows copy, you never know when we will need a custom launcher again.

i got some chinese instruction on how to run YY on mac. I believe they are using CrossOver.

Yes that's correct, they use crossover. I already checked this website and tried it, works without problems.
But does somebody know why I always get the message that our guild server is not existing when I enter the ID (2977600 - as shown in the sticky tutorial)? Is it not valid anymore?

Dont recognise that ID. I always use the on that is under Info in the guild page in game. I forget the number, but take a look when you log in next.

Gavy try to dl the 4.3.2 files from the link above and then try to rename the launcher.exe before you start the client, and rename it back to normal once the client has started. That s how it works for the windows version.

But honestly I would forget about the mac version, there's so few users you guys will be offline for days until someone decide to work into it.

My chinese girlfriend is still playing with her Mac! So there should be a possibility. I'm just back from work, try to find a way to come back online. Will inform you soon...

Yes thats right. Just go back to v4.3.2 and edit the realmlist in that way. Then it should work till the chinese WoW will be updated too.

Surely you meant v 4.3.3, right?

If your foreign client updated to the new version 4.3.3 you can't play on chinese servers anymore. You have to go back to 4.3.2, because chinese WoW is still on that version. Don't forget to edit the realmlist, otherwise it will update again!

No. My copy is still 4.3.2.

uru it works with with 4.3.3 but you need the 4.3.2 wow and launcher. Can be handy to install the chinese mac client if nobody wants to upload the files.

Aye. But both links are not working for me.

In short for those who have 4.3.3 installed (mac client):

1- Download the 4.3.2 files

2- Replace the 4.3.3 WoW.app and Launcher.app by the 4.3.2 ones

3- Name the Launcher something else

4- Launch game

5- Rename the Launcher back to its original name

Have a look to the posts a bit above.
At the moment there is no native YY-Client for Mac. But you can use an emulator like Wine or Crossover (got it running with Crossover).

Login as normal. Will tell you that "Patch is required". Below this message you will find a big [RESTART] button. Click. Wait for the download to finish. Use World of Warcraft.app to launch the game once again.

Mac, keeping it simple. Not like those poor windows folk over there.

There is no YY for mac but if you have an apple device (iphone, itouch, ipad...etc) just dl the app thats what i use and it works fine

I changed realmlist to the English one for update, when it finished I change back to Chinese one, I haven't noticed if there is a new 'chinese patch' and now I'm in Chinese relmlist and with that problem

There should be a patch you need to download when you login... That said, try repair. There's a chance your files got mixed up.

As of today, there was an update again. Apply the same procedure as usual: login with your account, game will tell you to restart, a new chinese patch will be downloaded. I'm pretty sure it's got something to do with files (mine is working perfectly). Try repair (remember to change the realmlist back to US one first).

There was an update as of 14/04/2012. Apply the same procedure as stated before.

Updated as of 16/04/2012 with a new workaround in case players got the "Unable to Validate Game Version" error.

Um...mine says unable to connect. I changed to the us .wtf like u said and opened wow.app then closed it and changed it back to the chinese one. was that suppose to do something?

The issues is most likely due to the fact that we're randomly mixing files together. Said issue can appear all of a sudden, or not even appear at all. Avanti has reported that constantly trying to login/restarting the game will fix this problem. Changing the realmlist was, the way I see it, to refresh the connection to the servers.
