I had eu wow acc , and started to play on alterac server(cn) just a few days ago.
My friend modified some file so i could log in with my game client.

But after this patch, it says unable to update and i cannot log in.

Launcher updated right away when i launch the game, so i dont know why it says like this.

I tried to change some file names but couldnt make it so far.

Please letme know whats happening here:)

What file did your friend change?

He just add Set portal "cn" , besides all config file looks same.

Basically i was still playing on eu servers with eu account, but i gave up cuz latency pissed me off .

And my friend modified it so i could log in chinese servers, and here we go, i cannot log after patch, as i said, it says unable to validate game version.

Change:

Code:

set portal "cn"

to

Code:

 set portal eu

Go into Launcher.db, and change

Code:

zhCN

to

Code:

enGB

Then try to update the game using the launcher.

Mate , it says the game is up to date, when i was playing yesterday things were fine, but today i launched the game and it updated automatically.

and since then i cannot log

Then maybe China isn't on 5.3 yet.

I see..Well i will wait then , wont touch any file name or something.

5.3 is definitely out in China as of yesterday, and they had a further patch today so you may need to update with launcher again in order to get in the game.

Make sure you're not running a VPN (and maybe virus scanner/firewall) when you update as that will sometimes cause a problem.

In that case it's most likely that Bharbo88 forgot to change something in Launcher.db or in Config.wtf .

Hi Guys,

I'm having some major issue with the updater.

I followed the usual steps to update to the next patch but I'm left with a little box that's "checking for updates" (for way too long). I never normally have ANY issues when patching...

So i go for a re-install and now it keeps doing the same thing...when launcher does come up it will freeze, when I re-open it I'm stuck on "checking for updates" again!

I'm not much of a techie but it hasn't done this before so it's a little weird...and annoying.

Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

I tried and even then i get nowhere. I open up "World-of-Warcraft-Setup-enGB" hit run and end up totally stuck on 'Checking for updates'. The bar doesn't even budge an inch...if i could even get the updater up i might feel better...but....really....wtf?1!

Maybe my computer is trying to tell me something.....

If you're on wi-fi, try to plug your computer directly with an ethernet cable. I'm guessing a background program is causing this right now so try to remove some things from task manager.

I'll give the direct cabling a go first thing in the morning.

Just so i know (told you i was a tech noob lol) what sort of processes should i be ending in task manager?

Any that should really stand out to you as being non-essential and possibly interfering?

Any background programs that you think might be interfering with your installer: anti-viruses, firewalls, etc.

I think the cable thing might work tbh.

Well...I tried the cable thing and I have turned off firewalls and antivirus.

No luck and the updater still freezes.

It has never done this before and my confusion is now at an all time high....

Tried that too mate and no luck.

My internet seems steady...I've turned off background stuff...plugged directly with an ethernet cable rather than WIFI.

I'm totally and utterly lost....I might just have to say bye for a while until I can get a new system but I had just started a new char that I was loving playing
