I play a rogue with a DPS raid build and all my gear is only orientated for high constant dammage on 40 men raid boses. I had a pretty cool carrier and i retired several months ago. Bored of waiting TBC, i decided to take my rogue again yesterday night and to change his spec for PVP (21/0/30 - cold blood, hemo, prep). As my gear was totally focused on DPS, my HP are ridiculously low (less than 4K) and most of my stats are focused on to hit %. So, i was expecting to get my tiny skeleton ass whupped big time After a few hours of duels, battlegrounds and wild PVP in silithus i cam to the conclusion that gear gives a pretty neat advantage in PVP. I mean, way more than i thought... To be honest, i butchered most of my oponents. Not by having skills at playing, but just by dishing hardcore dammage The wrost is that i completly remapped my keys and i was always cought ungard searching for some powers... but simple CS/H/H/H/CB/EV most of the time did the trick ... All this to say that good PVE gear can make a rogue deadly. Which make me wonder what would be the use of grinding rep for ages in order to get PVP gear. Anyways, we are close to TBC and it seems that HP average has been raised a lot... So, wait and see . . . . Personally, i will go back to enjoy finally being on top of silithus foodchain
| | pouetpou Guest | Fri 20 Apr 2007 - 11:10 # | That's a problem maybe in a PVP server... HAve to make a choice beetwen gears and skils oriented PVP and PVE (i mean for raids), or mix both of them. Because, otho we are in a PVP server we also have PVE parts in the game, dongeons, raids, tasks... But i still think here we should develop a full PVP gear and full PVP tallents... Maybe for all classes it will be different. I mean, maybe some clases will not have a lot of difference beetwen a PVP and pVE gear, only stamina will change, but it could be important too. But the skills points will make the diferences too. I'm not sure to be clear, DA , do you catch my meaning ? I know you know that, you just changed and try to mix... | | |

| | pouetpou Guest | Fri 20 Apr 2007 - 15:24 # | If the rogue PVE gear is better than the PVP gear, it's sound pretty good for me hehe. Im ean by PVE gear (T1,T2,T3); others epic gears could be a mix beetween them, i don't know... | | |
| | | Mon 23 Apr 2007 - 2:29 # | Its not that PVE gear (T1/ T2 / T3) is better than PVP gear "per se".
the additional stats are more towards resistances and aggro management and some things beneficial to a raid and "long term" blasting (for DPS classes) and healing (for healing classes).
PVP gear is (in case for mages to draw the best comparison, me being a mage) fully BURT oriented and giving a considerable STA (HP) boost, with little or no resistance whatsoever, and set bonuses oriented to PVP (blink cooldown shorter, stuff against snares, uninterrupted casts, resist silences, etc)
I went into Alterac Valley yesterday with NAKLiN, which i didn't do for a long time, because i am mainly tryign to get BEDO to 60 now, but BEDO got killed by a small group of level 60s, and they felt so strong about it, that i got angry and i took NAK.
Now i made a similar experience to Deadanus (besides the fact that i play my mage way better than my hunter still, and thus i will perform better). I was lucky enough to get a ONYXIA buff before getting in, so i had 10% mroe crit chance, which boosts NAK to about 30-40% base crit, depending on the cast. now THAT was fun. but if i die, i lose it. I played Alterac Valley one round only. 37 Minutes. End of game, i had the lead in Killing blows (83, followd by a guy with 43), i had 312 Honour kills, and i had.... ZERO deaths.
Here is the point. PVE gear is NOT necessarily better than PVP gear. But once you get PAST BWL, and you gear in AQ40 and NAXX and some highest rep rewards for some more rare factions,... once you get T3 pieces and soe random other drops from those instances,... your HP will be still way under that of PVP geared people. you die FAST if you are not paying attention. BUT!!!!!! You dish out so much damage, that usually anything dies before it gets dangerous.
It went like that: Forstbolt -> 2600 Guy notices me (or not, then he is dumb anyways). -> tries to move out of range, but is snared -> Frostbolt -> 1300-2600 -> dead or almost. either a frostbolt lvl1 or someone else hits him
its just that i hat so insanely high on people now that they simply DIE! Plus, my deep frost spec helps. fire mages can burst, but when a rogue shows, they might die. i have Dual iceblock + blink. i dont die. locks curses... i dont care. let him curse me. eat 2-3 frostbolts, die, then iceblock, no curse -> bandage or combat healing potion or bread.
my HP is about 3000. so hunters can 2 shot me if i dont have my ice barrier up. as soon as i feel the first hunter's shot one me, i turn 180 degrees, blink, combat potion, bandage, regen and back. but usually tried to target those first.
point being. if you handle well, you simply survive. if you dish out insane damage, they die. i prefer it dies before it reaches me, than having more HP, but having it reach me.
PVP gear is insanely strong though. Rank14 Mage gear can keep up wiuth the damage output of full T2 + a little more. AND has way more STA (HP).

You seem to say that mages can do both . Wich comforts me in the idea that it is definitly the best class in the game.

Thus gearing a mage is very easy, and can in no way compare with the pally (+defense, +heal, +resist...)...
| | pouetpou Guest | Mon 23 Apr 2007 - 9:19 # | yes, hehe, that's why PVP sets exist, if no ? why they exist ? to make beauty ? lol | | |

Wow... then how come 90% of mages i see geared utterly bad? taking all possible high end drops and equpping highest / latest items, thus having a incredibly bad char balance? and it isn't "that" easy. my meaning wasn't that mages had it easy. i see it with rogues, i see it on hunters (yes... damn it, i hate them), i see it on locks, etc. blizzard has updated pvp sets in order to keep them equally high than high end instances, until BWL. after that, mo more upgrades for PVP in patches. so gear is equivalent to full BWL level, a bit bit beyond, depending on outside pvp gear itemization and rep rewards. this applies to all classes. this has been addressed in TBC where arena pvp will have constant itemization updating and adding each new season cycle. the only classes that are hard tog ear are "support" classes that are not supposed to DPS in PVE (pre TBC). those might be paladins, priests, druids,... their PVE gear is completely biased towards healing and in no way for dealing damage whatsoever. ALL DPS classes will benefit from high end PVE gear beyond AQ40 in PVE, because they will dish out CRAZY damage.
