Im a long term wow player who is now living in China, I'm looking to start playing on the Chinese servers but I'm after a little info first.

1. What patch are the Chinese servers currently on.
2. I dont really want to level again, is it easy to buy an account or get a RaF partner?
3. How is the latency? Are the servers in China?
4. Can I just duplicate my current wow folder and changed the required docs and use it to play on Chinese servers?

Hi Busho,

1. The Chinese servers are on the same patch as the rest of the world. The patch day is on Thursdays, however, so we're 2 days behind.
2. There are sometimes people selling their accounts even in our guild and definitely some on Taobao.com. RaF partners can also be found in Guild. Visit the general/introduce yourself to TCW sub-forums to make your request.
3. If you're in Shanghai or Guangzhou area, then latency is really low to CN1 servers. From other places, latency can increase to 200ms or so. The biggest cause of latency seems to be your ISP rather than distance, though.
4. Yes, the files are all identical and you just need to set the portal as cn rather than eu/us. There are instructions on the process in the Technical Support forum.

Thanks for the info.

I just have another question, I already have an updated US WoW which I have been playing up until now, it is currently patched up to 5.4.1. Can I just change the files in that folder to the Chinese ones and be good to go once China is at 5.4.1 (tomorrow)?

In theory that should be enough to get it working. I guess its a matter of trying it today to find out.

Note that you may have to start the game with wow.exe rather than the launcher, however. The new desktop client may cause issues, although we haven't had anyone report any issues about it yet.

So im getting an error when I try to login, it basically says unable to connect, if the problem continues contact bliz etc etc.

Heres what I did:

1.Installed a fresh wow
2. Added a fonts folder and put linked fonts in there
3. went to the wtf folder and add SET portal "cn" - There are other entries in here with SET locale "US" etc, do I just leave those ones on US?
4. Logged in but get the error message, if i use the launcher i get the error in Chinese, if I use the exe I can get into the game but when i try to login I get the error message.

What am I doing wrong? Is it just because I installed up to 5.4.1 (thats the current US server patch)? Would love some help because the steps make it look so simple but somehow I've screwed it up.

Probably simply too early in the day and the servers aren't up yet. 5.4.1 went live today so would take a little longer than usual.

It seems there is a problem with chinese servers, its still down. You can check chinese servers status on http://www.battlenet.com.cn/wow/zh/status

to buy an account you can ask around, i'm sure there will be some people who can refer you to a website or taobao link for accounts, just make sure you got the copy of chinese ID too and after transaction you change the old ID with your ID (must be local, friend/classmates/whatever).

As for RAF I saw a lot of ppl looking for RAF in the guild, the problem is they are too lazy to post about it and/or check the forums. When i want to make alts i just RAF myself, just dualbox it. Its fast and convinient, you can raf till 81 i think, 81-85 is quick, 85-90 exp got reduced, 81-90 prolly took you 30-40 hours of gametime + around 10-15 hours of RAF.

So that message probably just meant servers are down? From what you have seen I did everything correctly in the installation process?

One of the Chinese guys I work with hooked me up with an account and a lvl 90 although I will probably reroll it. You all play on Alterac Mountains Horde?

Oh also does is the login screen supposed to appear in Chinese or just the same as the US one?

The servers are still down, dammit. Seems like you did everything fine.. although I have no idea what you actually did or did not do. too lazy to read it all.

The login screen is in English for me. We are all horde in Alterac Mountains.

Hopefully it will all work well then, been having massive spikes on the US servers in the last week or so and my net appears to be fine, hoping the switch will make it all better.
