Hi everyone, I've had a look around but couldn't find any information about this. I want to install the Chinese client as I think it will help me learn more Mandarin. I was wondering if there is some kind of addon available that lets me hover over a word and have it translated to English, with its pinyin and meaning? I have something like this for firefox and was hoping it existed for WoW.

Thanks for the reply. I'm surprised that no one has made something like that. I wish I knew anything about programs then I'd give it a shot

I looked into doing this a while ago but there is one major problem that stops it.

The UI cannot interface outside the game (on purpose presumable to stop kinds of hacks etc). I.e. you cannot send text on the clipboard from the game to something like google translate and return the translation.

This means the only way would be to have a massive LUA file with all the chinese word and translations in it.. even if this was some how possible, it would be a major cause of game LAG.

There was a russian addon that basically gave an english description of the items that you hover over. But it often crashes other addons and creates massive lag so wouldnt recommend it.

I just wrote a chinese to pinyin addon, eventually I will add english translation as well, and yeah I used a sizeable lua file (300kb now), that I autogenerated from a chinese dictionary database that I had previously spent a few months making.

I'll make a post about it after I run some more tests on it.
