So I'm an American in China with an intermediate level of Chinese but a well below intermediate level of tech savvy. I apologize in advance.

I'm just wondering if some saintly, patient person would mind telling me if I'm on the right track with this.

I've never played WoW before, but now am interested. I don't think my Chinese is good enough to handle the Chinese version as I'm totally unfamiliar with the quests, so, if I understand things, in order to play in English I need to...

1. Buy the American version from the American website.
2. Update it.
3. When logging on change something to something else in order to change the realm.
4. Then create a chinese account using those kiosk cards?

Is that anywhere close to what's being said here?

1. You can get it for free on the WOW website or on piratebay.org. You also need to get the expansion pack.

2.Correct. I think you can find the guides on what to update somewhere here. I havent played in a while and im thinking of coming back so i'll also have to look later.

3.yup. I think you also need to add a file to your game to enable chinese text. You also need to go to control panel and language options to enable east asian languages.

4.Yup.

What city do you live in? Surely there will be someone nearby you who can help you figure this out (and get the game client much faster).

I live in Beijing. The only part I'm really worried about is the replacing bits of files part. The Chinese I think I can handle, and even if I get stuck my roommate is Chinese, so...

But yeah, I found a torrent of the game but it said it would take 1 year to download. Then I downloaded the trial from the American WoW site, but when it started to download the full game it was downloading the Chinese version (I guess because of my IP Address?)

If anyone is any Beijing and wants to help with the technical stuff they would earn my eternal gratitude (and already mentioned companionship on future missions [of dubious value])

Hey this guide is for European and American versions of the game.

I just installed my World of Warcraft 1 week ago and run through some problems. Thats why I make this guide for all of you which is more up to date. Once U registered your account you need to do only 3 things:

First Install the game and make sure its up to date. ( this is the european version but since both are english it doesnt really matter ). Also whenever a new update of the game comes you need to switch back to the european or american server to Download it, whenever wow gives the error that it cannot validate your game version it means your game is not up te date!

Second I used This Launcher and add the IP address of the server to it:

cn2.grunt.wowchina.com ip：61.135.184.115 ( Beijing )
cn3.grunt.wowchina.com ip：125.64.38.112 ( Sichuan )

cn5.grunt.wowchina.com ip：121.14.86.109 ( Shanghai )
cn6.grunt.wowchina.com ip：61.135.184.116 ( Beijing )
cn7.grunt.wowchina.com ip：125.64.38.113 ( Sichuan )
cn8.grunt.wowchina.com ip：121.14.86.115 ( Area 8? )

: For me I live in Guangdong but added the first Shanghai server to play with Cow Eaters my average latency is about 60 so good


Third Install the language pack that can be found Here! and extract it to your WOW directory

The only thing you need now is a Chinese account you can use THis Guide to make one yourself or go to an Internet Cafe to ask if those guys can help you.

PS: To play with Cow Eaters you need to be on the maduolan-马多兰
Realm Alliance side.

Someone in Beijing should be able to burn you the files to DVD and you pick 'em up or meet for coffee or something somewhere...ask on beijing forum
