Hi there,

I used to play WoW in Europe, but gave up when I moved to Taiwan a year ago. Then a few days ago I noticed someone over on Forumosa that posted that there was a way to use the US client to play on the Taiwanese servers, great, or so I thought.

I have now tried everything in the FAQ, read just about every post I can find related to it all and it still doesn't work for me. I've downloaded the free version of the game, installed the 2.3.0 US patch, but no luck. I've manually installed the separate patches, but none of these seem to be recognised properly. I keep getting unable to verify game version every time I try to start the game.

I've downloaded the language file and created the Fonts folder, I've edited the realmlist.wtf file to read
set realmlist tw.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
set patchlist tw.version.worldofwarcraft.com
and I've now run out of ideas on what to do to get this working bar going down to 7-11 and picking up a local copy and somehow bodge that into English.

Oh, yes, I did create an account on http://www.wowtaiwan.com.tw/ and got some kind of code that I'm not quite sure that I'm supposed to do with. The furthest I got was with version 2.3.2 which gave me some comment about my account being enabled for the Burning Crusade, but that was it, it wouldn't let me log in without the add-on installed. Do they force you to install TBC in Taiwan or what?

I can't read or write Chinese so the account creation was done with some babelfish help, but it should be fairly accurate. Are you supposed to get some kind of confirmation email? I'd really like to start playing again and it's not like I haven't messed around with dodgy software in the past and managed to get it to work, but this one is just too much for me.

So, if anyone got any kind of ideas on what to do at all, please let me know.

Cheers

Ok, it seems like the Taiwanese servers have been patched to 2.3.2 after all, so after having downloaded the patch etc. I still see US as my only choice of domain, but selecting that and then PvP gives me a server name in Chinese which I can accept.

However, once again I get the little box saying that my account is authorized for TBC and I don't have it installed, do I want to go back to the login page or exit the game. Argh!!!! What am I supposed to do?

Seems like I solved my own problem by downloading TBC, it all seems to work just fine now... oh well, dunno why my account would only work with TBC
