Alot of people from overseas are playing the new MMO Aion on Chinese servers.
Aion hasnt be released in US yet, so everyone is playing on CN servers with CN client ( alot of english speakers). However unlike wow its easy to download a enu.pak to change the langauge to english in the CN client

gamecards are available at all the kiosks, you don't need them to play however.

Game works fine on XP, is buggy but has fix patches for vista and will not work on win 7 32 bit, only 64.

for vista and win7 i believe u need to download crossfire to patch the shitty gameguard up.

Ugh lack of support for Windows 7 32 bit puts me out. What Crossfire are you talking about? The only one I know is from ATI for their multi GPU setups.

Its a game with gameguard .dll's in or some stuff...there are patches but dont seem as reliable..u can install the game thn just delete it.

I have tried everything to get it to work on win 7, even win 7 RC doesnt work in 32 bit...blue screem memory dump error..


its not worth changing to 64 bit as everything else i have will feck up if i do.

It does look a nice game but I really dont wanna tank with angel wings, so not gonna set up a dual boot for it.

Guys why not using a dualboot? Actually I'm downloading the client right now and I plan to go buy the install cds in a shop caus it takes too long hehe. I mean yeah it's not wow, but what I want it's feel the magic of something new. New char, new bags, new skills, new gear, feel the magic. And at least you don't have people on ubergear just caus they vote since 1month.

They say that now you can play Aion on windows 7. I'm not moving definitly on Aion, but given that wow won't show before a good while, it's worth having some fun there. Might also help to kill time when there's no raid on wow

The thing is why make the commitment especially to a mmorpg if you don't plan to stay. I'm kind of tired of the grind that is prevalent in all mmorpgs. I'm probably going to play around on the wow private servers since I have not experienced Wrath yet and have not seen any of the new instances or quests.

I'll consider Aion if it outlasts the flavor of the month that AOC and Warhammer seemed to ride.

Hey hey it's me, wanted to share my first impression on this game.

So I'll tell you first, no need to compare it with wow, if you do you'll be disappointed. I won't write a big textbook either caus many forums and previews can be found online.

I did have a bad feeling when playing the 3st levels, but I have to admit that as I go through new zones, get new gear and new skills, I like it more and more.
For now I'm only lv7 in starter zone, have like 2keys to press to nuke monsters, but battles feels dynamic, so I'm curious to see how it goes at higher levels.
Computer wise It runs well on my crappy compter(dualcore 1.6ghz,2GB RAM, ATI24000 M), so I run mostly with low graphic details, but I have to admit that it's still good to the eye. Haven't been in a city yet so let's hope the framerate won't drop dramaticaly with many players around.

Interface is ok, looks good though missing some options, like right click /ignore on name in the chat(to ignore the spammers), it seems you have to write their names in the block window, sucks a little, but I guess it will be patched in the futur.

I'll say the main problem with this game is that it's only officialy available in china and korea, so if there's some addons, or macros, you'll have to browse the chinese web, meaning it's sudden death for your eyes.

Base game is in Chinese but you can download an english pack on the web, just a little config file twinking needed and you're good with a full english game.

I think it's definitly not a wow killer, but definitly worth playing it. 10000 times better than playing wow on private servers seriously.

If you decide to join know that you can play for free for some time(I don't know how much perhaps 10hours or 24hours) and game cards are available in China.

i am currently playing UO, Gunbound, and Oblivion (with over 90 mods attached). Not sure if there is any room, but i can decide in that 10 hours of free play to continue or not...

I finally found a working fix for win 7 32 bit

Got my game running and ten found i had downloaded the korean client, shame my account is in China!!

I went and bought the disc, then realised I dont have a Rom drve....the tried to write an image to a USB stick from my laptop...only to find that the DVD rom i bought is fecked!

Oh what fun!! gonna go and exchange the disc then will get back on and play with ya.

I have a big nasty on some realm in 4...azmodious, we are on the same regon but dont know about srver as it was in korean at the time i set the account up.

Anyway let me know if Kala is ur final destination and f so i'll patch up the languages and re roll on there with you.

Dunno how pvp is, untill lv 20-25(i'm still lv 11) you pretty don't cross the people of the other faction. But after that you pretty much lv in the same zones. I think you earn a kind of points for your whole faction when you kill people from the opposite faction and there is a classment so I'm sure you gonna have the opportunity to kill people. No pve servers in this game.. At lv 11 I did two duels with my cleric(D&D style with mace, shield, and chain mail) against a rogue totally owning him, need to see how it balance at higher levels.
Some people says Aion pvp is awesome and some says it isn't, we will have to give it a try by ourself.

So far my biggest concerns about the game is the UI. I thought in 2009, and after wow there was a kind of standard, but apparently not. There's spammers on trade and looking for group channel, and there's NO WAY to /ignore people in this game. You can /block them but it only ignore their /wishp. Fucking totally dumb. So you have to disable completly the channels, and anyway with the spams they are completly fucked, no use.
And the worse is the bots try to invite you every 1 or 2minutes in a group and the only way to prevent this is disabling group invite in the options. I mean, how dumb the developers are, they allow to auto refuse all the group invites, but doesn't let you totally ignore a player!!! So basicaly when you wanna invite someone you have to wishper him first caus nobody allows invites.
Also no addon, only simple macros, no way to click heal or mouseover heal.

Well that's for the things I don't like, but that doesn't mean the game is not good. Graphics are awesome, seriously sometimes you see the game and you're just, wow. And it runs smoothly on shit computer, runs better than WoW on my laptop. Also I like the musics(need to disable the combat bgm absolutly). Some will just get stuck in your head once you finish playing.

For gameplay it's still too early to judge but I'm sure it will hook us the time wow is back, in about 2 months, and if wotlk takes an eternity to come might be good to have some toons in aion caus they gonna add some content and correct lots of problems.

Guys to save you from smashing your computer like I did. You can only start the game with the desktop shortcut or start menu shortcut. Programmers are so crasy they didn't create an executable who actually lauch the game. I do suspect that it's only on chinese version. Also to activate the english pack you need to setup the paremeter who change the money symbols etc, on english US. No need to change the locality one.

Tomorrow I'm gonna start a new thread with a summary of usefull links and informations. The game is definitly worth playing, but the gameplay is not the same than wow. feels more like a baldur's gate or neverwinternight.

For the faction it's not a big deal guys, and elyos leveling zones looks better if it can cheer you up. Would be nice if we could all finish on the same place, really ：）

now that i agree with. Need some community in game and not just out. the Crazy WaiGouRen keep going through exodus after exodus... need a change of pace for a while.

Good to hear that most of you have the game up and running. Im currently playing on Region 4 , Beritra server.

I played region 2, Azareil server with a lot of foreigners but the lag was crazy ( im living in SH). Region 4 which im currently on is lag free and has quite a few foreigners. My in game name is plott (lvl 26 templer)

You can download the client, but like a few others i just popped down to my closest dvd shop and they have the game ...installed and patched it up and works like a charm.

You can get the game cards from the local kiosks. I wrote a quick guide on how to use the game cards
