Okay,

I have downloaded the US version of the game and I read in the tutorial that I should login in using a "fake account name". The problem is I do not know how to create this account. I tried getting one from the wow website and for some reason I cannot do it (I get a 404 error: page not found). Does someone have a US account that I can use just to update my wow version.

Also, when I try and login to the WOW start page, I get the error "unable to validate game version". I dont know whether I should just download another version or try and fix this one.

Ive spent the last 3 hours on it and still no luck! Not entirely sure what im doing wrong. And im getting very frustrated.

Any help would be appreciated cos I think Im gonna throw a tantrum soon.

you dont have to do zilch on a webpage. there might have been some misunderstand with the tutorial and explanation you read.

PROCEDURES UNTIL NOW:
Install your US wow. have the realmlist.wtf file point to the us server, start wow, input anything for login / pass, and your game will be patched!

CURRENT situation:
USA is having Burning Crusade, here it ain't out yet. therefore, if you patch your US client on a Us server, your client version will be AHEAD of current chinese version. In order to be on chinese server, you should find a repository site to download patches up to 1.12.1 for the US version, and then follow our "custom modification instructions on the forum" on how to self patch the version to 1.12.3

to find patch 1.12.1 US, you should by googling it. there are tons of sites out there hosting older patches for wow.

you still ned a chinese wow accoutn and login information afterwards, point your realmlist file to the server you registered on, and then you should be good to go (might wanna modify your game to see / type chinese characters as well).

i am not going into detail for each of these procedures right now, as they are all int he forum already and i dont have the time right now. you can find them quite easily. this forum is not that huge yet.

Okay, I was an idiot.

I sorted out the problem before I read your post Naklin and just let the updater auto-download all the patches. Now that I have read your post, Im worried that I am ahead of Chinese servers (because of the fact that TBC is out in the US and not yet in China).


Anyway, I changed the realmlist file after downloading all those patches and when I sign into my Chinese account Im still met with the message "unable to validate game version". Does this mean that I have to uninstall the game and reinstall because when I click on the patch 1.12.1 it says: "no need to install the patch 1.12.1, patch 2.01.6 is already installed".

If you could give me any pointers i would be grateful. Ive never played this game in English before...depressing.

You just have the wrong Patch version now of the game!
The game has to be at the US version 1.12.1 or 1.12.2!
And then just follow the descriptions as Naklin already sayd.

you can not revert patches..... sad to tell you, but....
delete you current install, re-install, patch to 1.12.1

I did it yesterday and was really succesful. In fact I played for hours cos I was so happy. But this morning I tried to play and was met by the same incredibly annoying error: interface files are corrupt. I dont understand, I didnt change anything after that.

Im gonna spend another entire day trying to fix this problem...FUCK!

you wont change anything
at some point int he game, your client (wow) might throw you back to the login screen. occasional disconnection (welcome to china, buddy), illegal itemlinks, or high lag spikes may casue this.

in a normal case you will be back at login screen.

now you remember we "manipulated" wow into believing it is 1.12.3, but it still is 1.12.1?????

have you ever tried to change, modify, copy or replace a MPQ file in wow before? it'll say the same things. your files are corrupt (whichever mpq file is not giving the right result).
we only modified the login procedure, in order to trick the server to take our 1.12.3 version, while we make the game .exe believe the game's resources are ll 1.12.3 as well, even though everything is 1.12.1

so anytime you will be ported to login screen, you get this message. load the game again and go on playing. sometimes it happens a few times in a row. basically it's the game, realising "hey, i am not 1.12.3" ... nothing more. no fix for this. live through it, TBC will be out soon, i hope.
try having this error 5 times in a row during bossfights in a raid.

Ok, I think I get what you mean.

But my error message does not come up during playing wow. It comes up whilst loading up the game and doesnt allow me to play. Its not an error that you can just ignore because it prevents wow from even starting.

I hope that your method of "just keep trying" works because I think its probably the only thing I can do now.

Ill paste in what I did to get the game to work in the first occasion:

This is the order in which I do things:
Install the game
Load wow.exe (the original file)
Sign in using fake acount (Realmlist pointing at US)
auto-download the 1st patch (1.12.0)
Download manually the 1.12.1 patch off a website
Replace the 4 files from the Chinese patch (1.12.3)
Paste in the patch 3.mpq into the data folder
Paste in the enwow1123.exe file into the root folder
Change the realmlist file to Cn1.grunt...
Load up wow using the enwow1123.exe
Process Complete...and it works (twice)

If there is anything wrong with this process please correct me

I dont know whats happening for you but it looks like some files are corrupt now:( You are sure that you did not change anything after your first succsecful connect!??

The order you write is correct and i believe the easiest way is to do it again, sorry mate. But before try to chekc your logfile in the Errors folder maybe it highlights the wrong file and we can help you to change it.

I dont seem to have a logfile in the errors folder (so I dont think its that). Im trying again, this time I will let it download 2 autopatches. Hopefully it wont take me past the 1.12.2 version (or Im screwed). I think its the only thing that I can do differently.

If it doesnt work then I will try downloading an EU version of WOW (I have US atm). Maybe it will make a difference, maybe it wont.

If that doesnt work, then I will play with Chinese client (and hopefully when the new patch comes out, it will resolve all my problems).

Im still optimistic, but thats fading pretty quickly. I dont think that I can play WOW seriously if I play in Chinese.

Does anyone if there is any difference between the US version and EU version?

No there is no big diffrence except some language files but the modification still works,fine with all languages!

try not to use the autodownloader he will directly patch you to the latest files(2.07). Try to google for the patchfiles itself. As for me i needed to update every patch up to 1.12.1 manual otherwise the autodownloader directly downloaded 2.01 for me or even the later patches today(2.07)!

Patch files are also at wowchina.com, a bit down. Easy to find, easy to download. I used them and now play the game

Giving up now. Spent about a week on this thing and I havent really gotten anywhere. It works about once a day and I guess Ill just have to put up with that until the next patch comes out.

I fucking complitely lost. Everytime i download something its patch and asking for wow.exe. Where can I get this 1.12.0 wow program or whatever it called?
I got client but its "restricted by tracker", I got full english download but its 2.06 version. and got few patches which doesn't wotk without *.exe file. Helpppppppppppp

You need to look for an older version of the English WOW. It shouldnt be too difficult to find. Just get on DC++ or any other reliable download program and search for WOW. I recently downloaded it from DC++ and it was version 1.12.0

NOTE: Make sure you have your anti-virus program on when downloading .exe files because a lot of the viruses that you get from the internet are in the form of program files. If you use a reliable program you should be fine.

Once you have the 1.12.0 version...follow the tutorial. Let me know if you have any further problems

don't search for the version. search for "wow trial client". you can find it on fileplanet or any number of hosting sites. http://www.fileplanet.com/163517/160000/fileinfo/World-of-Warcraft---Trial-Client

also, once you have the trial client and have put in the trial key (from the same website), let it update automatically. the game will only update one patch at a time, so you don't have to worry about it installing 2.0 without your knowledge. The small patches will download directly, and the big patches will start the blizzard downloader program. i do not suggest manually downloading patches and installing them. When you connect and the blizzard downloader program says that it's downloading patch 2.xxxxx whatever, simply close it and you're done. i was afraid of accidentally upgrading to 2.0, but you really don't have to worry, as the downloader program will tell you what it's downloading, and since it's a huge file, you will have plenty of time to notice it anc cancel. I'm back to BJ and was able to DL 1.12.05666 and install all according the suggestions.
But like Laminebean I can't play, I even can get at least 1 time. It says that my "files corrupt or interfirience with other program". Does any1 have solution to this or is it mean that I have to switch to Chinese ver.?

Oh 1 more thing: When it says that I need to point to CN server it means that I need to rename the realmlist.wtf file into cn1.grunt.wowchina.com, right ?

you have it right as far as realmlist file is concerned.

you should have the following:
WOW installed
Patch it to 1.12.1 (5875)
then apply our custom patch (found in the forum) to make wow believe it's 1.12.3

you might still get a random "game files are corrupt" error every once in a while, but thats ok (i get one every few days).
but you should be able to log in.

thats just for the client to run. for reading / typing chinese in game you need to do the other things i wrote in a different thread ( check posts by me and you find it).

Download & Installed the 1.10.0
Manually updated to 1.12.0.56
Manually updated the 1.12.1.58
Replace the 4 files from the Chinese patch (1.12.3)

Renamed the realmlist file to Cn1.grunt.wowchine.com
Load up wow using the enwow1123.exe

It loads up the main page and when I sign in it sais that "can't verify the version. maybe file corrupt or interferience with other program and so on..."

i hope thats a spelling mistake, and what you mean is that you replaced the adress of the us realmlistserver INSIDE that file with the chinese one. open the file with notepad, i mean. do NOT rename the file. Basically, delete all content inside the file and copy / paste this inside:

check also if you have a folder called errors in your root and if there is some files in it. if so, open the newest txt and copy/paste me the part that looks like this:

alos the folder logs can contain useful information. check for files in it, and open the newest one, if it doesn't contain private data (your username or whatever), post it here, if you think it may be relevant or help me fix your problem.

because of our "custom patch" you might have sooner or later a GlueXML.log that contains something like:

could you please make a screenshot of this (for exact text and knowing at which point you get this message).
is it a message WITHIN the game client (ie: login screen), or does the client close, and a windows (microsoft) window pops up with an error message?
a screenshot might really help me here. if it is IN the game, just hit the print screen button on your keyboard and then look for the file in your screenshots folder and show it here or send it to me somehow or upload somewhere.
if its in windows, i hope you know how to make a screenshot. otherwise you can use mobile phone to capture it or just any means.

worst comes to worst, tell me your usual online time (as soon as possible, to solve this) and if you use some messagin software like msn, icq, qq, yahoo, Gtalk, etc. then i help you online directly.
