I guess some might have the same trouble like me and already run the European Client on the latest Version 3.3.5 , if you dont want to clean install follow the guide below. The old way of just pushing repair does not work anymore, THX Blizzard

If you are not sure what your doing i suggest you copy your full WOW folder and you can have 2 (or more) clients in case u screw something up

Here is the How to (i used for my client to be able to modify it for CWOTLK):

1.Open your \World of Warcraft\Data Folder and rename patch.mpq into patchbackup.mpq
2.Start the repair tool in the wow root folder and click Verify WOW, you will recieve a message which says your wow is corrupt and it will be repaired to the old version (in my case 3.0.1.8874)
3.Now you can patch up to any Version needed for modification (3.2.2 for CWOTLK)
4.Follow Bolomas Guide to modify your European Client for CWOTLK

Can't...rename, then run the repair.exe, it says: "不能连接到暴雪修复服务器, 请稍后再试"(can't connect to repair server, plz retry later), always this...

2 possible problems :

1. your "realmlist.wtf" connect to the chinese patch server. restore the original one.

2. you have the repair.exe of the wrong game version. Either restore the original repair.exe, and if you don't have the original, reinstall your game.

how up2date is this? downlaoded 4.0.3 enUS and need to downgrade to something thats workable in china

not sure if the guide will work, cause you got 4.x.x version

skar you can't downgrade from 4.0 to 3.0

You have to download a 3.0 client, try the links I provided in the guide, but honestly I don't know if it's possible to download a Wotlk client via the official servers anymore.

Ok found were you can dl the client. Go to http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_mirrors_%28old_patches%29 and scroll to the bottom of the page. Not sure if all the links work though.

There are some guys around senzhen but you know that what you are asking is against the copyright ; )
So you better be careful, best is to google for and old tbc or wotlk client download , and then update it manually to the latest patch.

I guess you don't have your original CDs laying around?
That's for me the safest way to be able to update manually no matter what happens in the future.

Well, I can also try the taiwanese servers - dunno probably the connection is lousy, however they run version 4.0.3.

Only download WOTLK client. You will run into problems if you download a TBC client.

As i replied to your other topic if you have an ftp or something similar i can upload my european version for you its also english so in game it should be identical to the US one.

I live in Foshan thats about 3 hours away from Shenzhen by car, so if there is no other way you can come to foshan and pick it up

Just saw that on Youtube not sure if it works try at your own risk !!!

1.Make a backup copy of your current WoW folder
2.Uninstall the previous WOW but keep the backup copy in a save place (that assures u can still play in case the below steps doesnt work!)
3.Start installing WOW when the installer hit 90% disconnect your internet connection
4.Once the installation finish it cannot patch automaticly to 4.x.x and your installed Version should be 3.x.x
5.From there manually patch the game to the pacth you nedd for the chinese Version

Better start wow through the wow.exe (If you want to check the version) and not the launcher to avoid automatic patching!!!

Just to mention again i am not sure if it works and i cannot test it as i only have the CDs and not the downloaded Client.

@Skar maybe you want to give it a shoot and reply if it really works.

Not sure if I am able to try everything - have to fly on thursday for 3 weeks back to Germany to attend a weeding and xmas :/.

I think I will try the following:

- 4.0.3 on taiwan server (got the client a account of a work colleague to test connection)
- setting up an fTP to get the wotlk client

I am pretty sure in the end the internet connection to tw is too lousy but well 4.0.3 i already have and I better save it anyway .

skar I don't know which client you tried to download on wowwiki, but what you are saying is that within the 40 links available none of them work?

Personally I was even able to dl the old US client installer that let you choose to install wotlk, but couldn't go further caus my harddrive is full.

I really think you didn't try hard enough

only checked the "slim" client - that one only has one link and it is not working

didnt even notice that the one box above is also a basic client.

If you are using an EU/US client to play on Chinese servers, I would make sure not to use the wow launcher.
Open the launcher options, deactivate the background downloader and any other options that will allow wow to download autmaticaly.
Start the game, so that you can see the login screen. There should be an option to activate/deactivate on the lower left side, deactivate it.

There are two ways to update without the launcher:

First:
You can download each patch from a website of your choice and install it manualy into your wow folder.
I do not recomend this option, if you don't know exactly what you are doing and you don't know the website you are downloading the patch from.
Even if you know the website and never had a problem, chances are there, that you can download a keylogger or virus.


Second:
Update each patch from the official wow site, using your game client.

IMPORTANT: I do not know if this will work after Cataclysm comes out.
But you can easily check the patch that is being downloaded and if you see that it is a too high version, just abort it. If that is the case the only way would be to update via the First option mentioned above.

Now when you have your wow client with version 3.0.x dont use the launcher to update. Open the game with "wow.exe".
Once you see the login screen, insert a random user name, eg. "abc@abc.com" and a random password.
It will then tell you there is a patch available and after you confirm it will start downloading it.
After the download and installation your launcher will open. Make sure to close the launcher and not to download via the launcher.
Open the game with wow.exe and repeat the process until you have donwloade all necessary patches.

Important is that your realmlist.wtf is set to wow EU/US, depending on your game, to be able to download patches. These are the original settings.
Make a copy of the settings, so that you can change them back, whenever you need to patch the game.
Change to Chinese servers to be able to play.
(Check the guides, for the Chinese settings)
