Hi.

I have been viewing this site for a long time now but havnt posted before (shy). I followed the instructions to play with the new expansion and I can log in fine. The problem I am having is I cannot go to Northrend and such as it says I have not updated my account to wrath of the lich king. I would really appreciate if someone could quickly explain to me how to do this or point me in the direction of any thread that has included this.

Something that was pointed out by bolomas, but important:

Expansions are not mandatory in Mainland

So basically, it means that:

You updated from your "Hacked" Chinese/English client, previously made for 3.1.3. Therefore your game is still on TBC. You can login fine because you have updated to the correct version, 3.2.2, but have not downloaded the actual expansion!

If all else fails just ask the techies on this forum!

The version is the wrath version. Downloaded a new full client and patched to the right point. I had thought at first that was the problem but the copy has all the lichking files. Had also used another copy of this version of wow to test out northrend on a private server and worked (I know its wrong but just wanted a taste before i got there on the retail). I also just checked and confirmed it had the lichking.mpq. Did anyone have to do anything to there accounts to gain the expansion components on the chinese servers? Maybe I just did something wrong along the way... I will try to check over what I did in the meantime.

Actually I think I may have worked out the problem. Was reviewing my battle.net account. 身份证验证失败，请联系网易战网客服. I dont always pay attention to what is written in han zi but I assume if an account did not pass authentification it will not allow the expansion components to the customer?

MPQ files include backup-enCN, base-enCN, expansion-locale-enCN, expansion-speech-enCN, lichking-locale-enCN, lichking-speech-enCN, locale-enCN, patch-enCN, patch-enCN-2, patch-enCN-9, speech-enCN

The game is working fine. Can play just if I jump on the zepp to northrend when it does the load screen I am back in Durotar with the message "Your account has not been upgraded. You must upgrade your account" Not exact words but was something like that.

If it is an account issue probably because I used my wifes ID card but if I remember correctly I used my name not hers. Is it possible to retroactively change an account holders name?

Thanks bolo and uru. I think now I know the problem. Looks like im gonna have fun trying to communicate with netease about fixing the problem.

I am wondering if I should ask what methods they would actually suggest a non chinese national do to play cwow. Just curious if they would actually say something like non Chinese are not supposed to play on cwow or if they actually encourage a foreigner to use another persons i.d card.

Having read the thread you linked I imagine their are a few others who might have suffered a similar problem. Looks like the normal content could still be played and only the expansion content is blocked as a result of authentification failure.

On a plus side my scouring the wow site for an answer made me realise that the site had a character transfer option. Might be able to hook up with others if cwow has an expat resurgence.
