2hander gives 5380 gs. i found out this my last day of patch 3.2.

Everyone seems to say "cool now GS is gone on cata" but I never understood the difference between ilv and gs. Isn't gear score based on the level of the item (for exemple all legs ilv245 grants the same gs, same for the other parts)? What difference does it make then?

I'm asking caus 2 days ago I was almost arguing with someone bout this but couldn't really grasp why he was saying ilv was better since it seems to be the same to me.

And now on cata when you try to get on a gold pug(if those has started yet), how do they check if you got sufficient gear?

Because:
A shadow priest still can wear items with AGI on it and there for have a better GS or ilvl as a rogue, so the raid looking for one more DPS will take the priest to the raid instead of the rogue

ilvl isnt any better than GS but I just got so sick of it in wotlk

unfortunately all pugs ask for ilvl beforehand and its the same crap as before

iLevel gauges your character based on the best gear you have, meaning that even if you have full 200s and 187s for PvE gear, but full Relentless PvP gear, Blizzard considers you to be a bit better than someone in full 232s across the board since you, in their words, "have more experience". I honestly think it's bullshit but hey, it is a bit better than GearScore.

Why is that better? Why does someone who sits in BGs all day and never raids (ilv187/200) but has all the time in the world for PVP (ilevel251) considered better then someone who has raided some or atleast worked with a group long enough to get ilevel232?

Actually "geared" pvp players are considered good because it requires a lot skill to get ilv251 gear(currently). Sitting in bgs won't get you any good gear (you only get the ilv251 bracers from bg). But arenas will. And to get past the 1800 mark(team and personal rating) you really need to work the hell out of your class, and master the game.

I'd say ppl that are able to reach these ratings doesn't have any problem doing PVE either. Because PVE situations are always the same, and they are just that good.

Well IDK, but I can report that I recently had a wonderful healer in 251 pvp gear doing the 3 new heroics but she rolled on every dam drop.

Ah yeah that's a good thing you point here, I was arguing about the skill lv of the players, caus bis pvp gear is hard to get, but I also don't think any serious raiders would take a full pvp healer into a raid since I highly doubt they would have the mana regen to last a boss fight(except maybe a PTTOC).

Yet you can find videos of lv70 guilds raiding sunwell in full blue gear but well.

As for your holy pal, maybe he was just wearing pvp gear to hide his pve set and DE as much shit as he could.(I hate those guys that take all the shit when the Need button is highlighted for them!!!)

To get good PVP gear, one needs skill.
To get good PVE gear, one only needs gold.

A player with no skill will never get the best PVP gear, because the Arena team can't afford to have a single unskilled player.

On the other hand, a player can join a 25man ICC heroic raid, pay gold for being in the group and just AFK and get his "277" gear.

Of course this is not the normal case, and of course ppl who raid need a lot of skill, especialy for ICC heroic raids.

PVP gear is for PVP, just as PVE gear is for PVE. Thats what the gear wase created for, so a raid with ppl only wearing PVP gear will mostlikely fail, just as an arena team wearing only PVE gear will fail aswell.

I'm going to be really sorry I asked, but where can one get a clean download of GS compatible with our current patch? It is enough of a sacred cow that I figure that I should at least have some idea what mine is.

Edit: wowinterface.com still has good archives. I found compatible versions of several add-ons that had been eluding me.

To make sure it's the right one for our version, always download a build released before September/October 2010.

Thumbs up on muhans commet its my equal Words. I gear up gor pvp in the passt very easy by jooning g Raids in Tbc. But to Hit my Arena rank with ag of 1800 was very difficult and took more skill of my class I ever need for icc or any courent cata dungeon!!!

I think TotalBiscut summed it up nicely when reviewing an EU thread when OP of the thread said that people use PvP gear to cheat the system. It really IS cheating the system and it really needs to be addressed.

One way that you can fix it is omitting any PvP item (save for the craftable blues) from the equation.

especialy now, since you can get gear for honor.
I was able to get a 264 & 232 item, with my horde paladin, just by trading in the tokens I got from BGs. It's realy a joke.
Hope its better with Cata, since with WOTLK many abuse this system to get into dungeons.
The other day we had a healer in one of the new ICC 5man dungeons.
He realy wanted to heal with his PVE GS3600 gear, but I guess he wasn't succesfull, cause the tank left 5 seconds after all were summoned and was followed by me after another 5 sec.
Wonder how he got in the dungeon in first place, other than wearing the PVP gear I can not understand how.

I for one will be glad when GS is gone. for a warrior tank it is completely skewed.
i am still using Blackheart because of its health(bonus proc is nice as well). the fact that other tanking trinkets have none and dont improve any of my stats (diminishing) compounds my hate for GS. after defense cap and D/P/B % are in a good place, armor and health are all that matter.

PVP gear is easy to get in WotLK,, raid for it hoard honor for it,, exchange almost any token for it. even the highest stuff for no rating ie: boots wrists... rated BGs will be a welcome diversion... i just wish they would remove 2 BGs from the game though.

FBs are fast but more challenging than TBC, PvP is still better in my eyes... but gear is too easy to get... needs to be less watered down in content though.

win at least 5 arena to cap off conquest points ,do this for 3 weeks to get the pvp 2h, staff or gun/bow

and work your butt off for honor to get blues

My thoughts exactly, but I guess Blizzard's mentality is that not everybody does Arena.
