Playing on Chinese Mainland Servers by using enUS wow 5.1

Installation steps. enUS locale (US client) used as exemple.

1. Install the foreign streaming client.

2. TODO EACH TIME AFTER A EU/US CLIENT UPDATE. In your wow folder make a copy of both wow.exe wow-64.exe and launcher.exe, then rename the copies into wow.exe.bak wow-64.exe.bak and launcher.exe.bak.

Do not touch those .bak files until the next foreign client update, so do not replace those files if you applied a chinese launcher update on your client.

3. into the \wow\WTF\folder, make a copy of config.wtf and rename the copy config.wtf.bak. (.bak means backup)

Then open \wow\WTF\config.wtf :

Modify the line
Code:
SET portal "us"

as below,
Code:
SET portal "cn"

IF it doesn't exist add it at the bottom of the file.

4, make a copy of wow.exe wow-64.exe,battle.net.dll,battle.net-64.dll, then copy 5.0.5 zhCN version's wow.exe,battle.net.dll,wow-64.exe,battle.net-64.dll to wow folder

5. Start the game with wow.exe or wow-64.exe, never ever use the launcher.exe to start the game.

Important :

- Once your client is updated edit the language code located in \wow\launcher.db into

zhCN

Not doing so may get you into all sorts of trouble when EU/US updates are released before China

maybe should replace "Battle.net.dll" "Battle.net-64.dll" because these files are different version from 5.0.5 to 5.1

updated their 5.0.5 english client to 5.1 already?

even if it isn't I still have 5.0.5 unmodded english client

so if anyone can, please send me 5.0.5 zhCN version's wow.exe,battle.net.dll,wow-64.exe,battle.net-64.dll

unfortunately, this does not work, i tried replacing those files with 5.1.0.16309 russian version. still "Error 112, Unable to validate game version".

Thx but i found how to stop my 5.0.5 from autopatching so i didnt really try this new method.

Today is 5.1 patch. If you are using English Client to play WoW on Chinese servers, you must edit your config file to point back towards US servers, then launch the WoW Luancher so the downloader starts. Patch fully, then point your config file back towards china servers to log in.

Having trouble getting the launcher to work, I set portal back to eu and I'm given an error on start up with the launcher. My game worked until today, am I missing something else that I have to change?

dont forget to change ur launcher.db back to enUS or whichever u are using

In the end I got a friend back in the UK to send me the wow.exe wow-64.exe, battle.net.dll, battle.net-64.dll and config.wtf (adding set portal "cn") files from his patched 5.1 version. Copied them in and started it from the exe and it worked. Not a perfect solution it seems, but allowed me to log in and play!
