Hey, i've been looking at the guides for setting up my client to play on the Chinese server however i have no idea what to do.

The guides date back 4 years so theres quite a few variations as well as different patches.

Can someone give me a brief idea as to what i have to do?

Problem seems to be that China is a hotfix patch ahead of europe/us. I also can not log in. We are waiting that some nice guy upload the chinese wow.exe to be replace the wow.exe (of course after a backup) in our wow folder.

Yeah,

normally before changing files u should do a backup.
In this case your english wow.exe can be just copied to a backup folder or just rename it into wow.exe.bak (bak for backup).
When EU/US will update you will need to delete the chinese wow.exe again and replace it with the backup to afterwards stream the new patch from EU/US.

Ok, i think i understand but i think i'll just have to run by trial and error after a few months of playing im sure i'll pick up patching it

Dont worry, it is just the time where the version do not match and everybody got some issues.
This will be solved in a matters of days and then it is back to the addiction .

So what do we have to do each time there is a patch?
Change the launcher back to enGB -> patch then back to zhCN? that it?

When on the EU, it says my client is uptodate but when i change it to the chinese one, it says its not :S

This problem what we have now, or maybe just a few , didnt occur for quite a long time.
normally it is like this:
1.) Change the config.wft from SET portal "cn" back to SET portal "eu" or whatever language you have
2.) change the laucher.db from zhCN back to enGB (or other language)
3.) Start wowlaucher and Stream the new patches till the englisch client is up to date
4.) Stept 1 in reverse and
enjoy the game.

In normal cases like this our tekkies upload in a few hours but this time it takes some time.
Maybe holiday, busy at work or family.

Interestingly, enUS client has no problems logging in to Chinese servers.

The most simple way to set up your client is as follows:
1.) config.wtf -> SET portal "cn"
2.) launcher.db -> No change (Leave as enUS, etc.)
3.) Use launcher when updates required
4.) Start the game with wow.exe/wow-64.exe.

Since starting MoP, I've never had to change launcher.db or config.wtf from the above. I only run launcher when a new patch is required. You'll probably still have to wait for EU versions to update, but this works perfectly for enUS.

Is there many differences between the EU + US?
Or is there any advantages / disadvantages between them?
Is the US version updated quicker than the EU???

Would it be advised to download the US version?

Make a copy of your (original) launcher.db and realmlist.wtf and rename them LauncherEU.db and realmlistEU.wtf.

(modify the copy files not the original!)
1.Change the launcher to zhZN
2.Change the realmlsit to:
set realmlist cn.logon.warcraftchina.com
set patchlist zhCN.patch.battle.net:1119/patch
set realmlistbn ""
set portal cn
3.Change in your config.wtf -> SET portal "cn" (Never need to change this at all, unless u want to play on EU servers!)
4. Start WoW.exe and your good to go.

In case you get the patch notice. Rename your Copy files to LauncherCN.db and RealmlistCN.wtf and delete from your original files the EU. Run launcher and update to the latest version.

Each time you just need to change these 2 files launcher and realmlist.
EU file - for updating your client or play on Eu server
CN file - for playing on chinese server.

This time its just a hotfix and version missmatch then dont bother to play around just wait until someone uploads the latest Chinese WoW.exe that works 99% of the time until the version is the same.
