one other question my bad, the chinese wow.exe i just downloaded from that filefront link... its 12 MB is that right? where is my "Us" wow.exe, which folder is it in, so i can back it up just in case for future patches.

Back from Lunch, the following result.

I copied my working EU-WOTLK folder to a different partition.

I copied the wow.exe from a working Chinese-3.0.5 folder to the WOTLK folder

I updated the realmlist.wtf

Start the Game.

Uuuuppss, forgot something.

You also need the "fonts"-folder incl. fonts. Just copied from my 2.4.3-folder.

Start again.

And here we are. Back in business :-)

Just to let y'all know that I patched up to 3.0.3.9183 with the Launcher against US download server and then got the WoW.exe executable from the site posted by DeadLytch dude....and it worked!!

it works!!

hoisin, you need to change it to:

set realmlist cn[6].grunt.wowchina.com
set patchlist us.version.worldofwarcraft.com


replace [6] with the relevant server number that you are on

Finally at 96% of 3.02 patch and update to 3.03 is already finished ...
**** had just played for 2 hours around to find out Blizz changed the Patch folder and called it Updates from now on.

confirm 3rded (?) patched us, saved all my chinese and old stuff in another folder.

replaced wow.exe, switched realmlist and config and bam interface screwed 51 pt tree goodness

edit/ps: old problem gone,, interface problems remain... ugh (cant see any chat, mine or others,,, which also means notices dont show in general either.

but i have to re install my US a version.. so when i get that done

can i get a Coles notes version of what to do once i got US back on my PUTER

first:back upand save all chinese config.wtf files (1) and realmlist (1) files, and wow exe (cautious i am)
second: put in US config and realmlist files
third: Download american updates
4th: get chinese wow exe
5th: put chinese config , realmlist and WoW.exe into proper places


this is how i did it, no chinese version required... i think i got everything?

Ok get this, i downloaded the patches, and guess what I get oW to work fine BUT...i get the Wotlk login screen. And i have not dowloaded Wotlk or installed it, just downloaded the patch 3.0.1 3.0.2 and 3.0.3 =P

I followed Gruumsh's plan, with a few deviations.

1. Reset realmlist.wtf to original us server.
2. Downloaded/installed the 3 updates thru the Bliz patcher.
3. Downloaded the Chinese .exe linked above, put it in the right place.
4. Reset the realmlist.wtf file
5. Cursed at screen when it didn't work.
6. Try again, because maybe it'll just work.
7. Re-read thread, feel stupid when noticing the real realmlist.wtf file moved to the Data folder.
8. Fix things.
9. It works!
10. Post a thank you too all you people who worked this out.

guys i got it working now.... the key for me is the realmlist.wtf.. it's placed in wow/data/enGB folder... make sure u are in the right folder and when u copy the file across it will ask u to rewrite some file.... if u don't get this then u would be at the wrong place...

Why any time my config.cfg change ? Of Chines WoW copy config.cfg in EU version. And im play WoW, he say * You version is not correct*. Im watch config.cfg he change in EU coordinates

1. to u EU version copy only wow.exe (chinese version posted here)
2. open u wtf file and edit it
3. DONT run u WOW from launch.exe. always use wow.exe

Hello All,

So I followed the steps outlined above, that is, I used the US launcher to update to the latest patch, changed my realmlist under data to cn2grunt.wowchina.com, downloaded the chinese wow.exe, moved it into my world of warcraft file, started it up, got the wrath of the lich king launch screen - with that big ass dragon - and then after I typed in my info I got the can't connect error message...

Any ideas what I did wrong? I looked in the config file which is under WTF but didn't see anything amiss there, it's also set to cn2grunt.wowchina.com.

The only thing I can think is that maybe my card expired, does that happen? I haven't played the game in months because of GRE and other exams I've had to take, so even though it still has money on it I suppose it's possible that the card expired, although even then I should be able to get past the connection process, I guess.

Any ideas?

as far as i know, gamecards loaded up before hte xpiry date which i think is set in january, should work fine =P

Yeah, it's clearly not the card. I'm pretty much at a total loss. The only thing I can think is that because I haven't installed Chinese fonts it can't connect to the right realm, since the realm's name is written in Chinese config file, but I don't even know if that makes sense.
