When I try to patch my WOW do I need to have an account on the US server to log on?

No, just put in anything you want, it will automatically patch.

When I put in a random name and password I get to "authenticating" and then it stops

just open wow with launcher.exe and it should do the trick. before you hit the big PLAY button let it start downloading and you should be set.

I tried that also but nothing happens, I just get all the current news.
In My data folder is enGB and the realmlist and patchlist are both US. Could that be the cause?

sorry didnt have the time to check the whole thread. what version are you running? is it 3.05?
I had a problem when i wanted to patch my eu wow, with a 3.05 version, i was not able to patch it. luckily i have an external HD, where i store different versions of WOW, such as eu TBC, eu WOTLK, chinese version.
so i deleted my wow folder and copied my wotlk from my HD.
if you dont have a back up i guess you have to downgrade to 3.02
then you can start the wow.exe insert random user and random password and it will download. just be aware, that if you wana play in china, that you dont go over 3.13.
if you use the launcher it might just continue to download.

Since yesterday I will always store on my ED:

- Chinese WOW TBC patch 3.1.3
- English WOW WOTLK patch 3.1.3
- English WOW TBC patch 3.1.3

- Chinese installer client
- English instller client

- All the patch english since till 3.1.3 (mirrors list gave by bolo is very useful and the dwnld is rather fast)

- Back Up of the actual modified version

Very long to got it, each time that I quit wow I used to launch the dwld during the night so once for all I have everything.

To downpatch the guide says to delete patch.mpq then run the "repair", however repair doesnt work for me because it says "this version of blizzard repair does not support your version of WoW"

because the wrong wow.exe is in your folder. You have to restaure the original wow.exe

Whenever I extract the skeleton.exe to my WOW folder I cannot see it in there when i check later. Same problem when I try to extract somewhere else and copy it over.

Also when I extract it to a location ill see it there for a second before it dissapears.

edit: I found out that mcafee was automatically deleting it, and in the mcafee options it wont let me restore it. Does anyone know a way to tell mcafee to leave a file alone?

try to find the options for the exceptions or check if the file isn't in quarantaine. I don't have this antivirus so can't help you more

Is it necessary to uninstall both versions of WoW? My friend told me that you must have the game uninstalled to be able to use the English client for Chinese WoW.

you can have 1 wow folder per drive on your computer.

eg. if you have a c:, d: and e: drive

you can have at the same time
one wow german version on "c" drive, for your EU or US account
one wow chinese version on "d" drive, for your Chinese account
one wow english version on "e" drive, for your Chinese account


you even can install a wow folder on an external HD and play from there

Congratulation. You can play now in EU/US with a EU/US client in your language, and you can play in China with a Chinese client in Chinese language. Ups, that not what we want, right?

I didn't delete anything, just copied the files from chinese Root Files, then clicked "Yes To All" to replace the existing files.
And it works well.

I dont know why people have trouble to follow simply the guide!?

It is confirmed that it works with all clients!!! Please do not delete or replace any files without making a Backup for your own sake!!!

Most of us have several WOW installed.. like me i have 3 different ones which makes no conflict beside the automatic patch updates. But that is easy to overcome by manual patching the Client and not by the Blizzard Updater!

but Hirna when you did this you still destroyed the old files... You won't be able to patch your english wow now caus you destroyed the original files.

So guys really, don't mess this, backup the files you replace because you'll need to put them back on patch day.

China has TBC, WOTFLK is not approved by the govmt. and will mostelikely come out after Cataclysm (or whatever the new addon of wow is called) is released in the rest of the world.

Hi guys, anyone here trying to play WoW in China on a Mac? I get the feeling this could well be mission impossible...

the problem is that there are a couple things that you need to download in order to play wow, specifically the evil patch (not available for mac) and the launcher, skeleton.exe (also not available for mac)

i have a mac but i just installed xp.

unfortunately this is the only current way to solve the problem.
